Apart from the game designers, game developers are also an essential part of making a game. It is safe to say that the two go hand in hand, and one cannot go without the other.
We have previously done an interview on one of our game designers. So, it is only appropriate now to interview one of the members of the developer team as well.
This time, we're chatting with Yosua, one of the programmers at our developer team. Through our conversation, we got the chance to explore more about the game-making process at Melon Gaming from the developer's point of view. So, if you're interested to know more about it, check out our conversations below!
Q: Can you tell us about the roles of game developers in creating a game?
First and foremost, we-along with the other team-help come up with the concept of the game we're about to make. Once we've settled on a concept, we proceed to our main task, which is to integrate all the assets made by the design team to be put into the game. We are also in charge of programming the interaction between the user and the game, and making sure the game is playable by the users.
Q : In making a game, there are two core teams; the game design team and the game developer team. How do these two teams cooperate?
We do have to constantly cooperate with each other in the process of making a game.
Before we start with any further process, the developer team and the design team (along with the game producer) have to discuss the concept of the game we want to make.
Next, based on the discussion, the programmers will start making a list of assets that are needed in the game, along with their specifications. This list will then be given to the design team, who will proceed to design and make the assets listed.
Once the assets are finished, the design team will hand them to the developers to be put into the game. If there is a problem with any of the assets, the developers will let the design team know, so they can adjust and make some changes so these assets are more suited to the game.
Q: What are the obstacles you face as a game developer?
Sometimes there are unpredictable bugs that we have to sort out. Also, the game we've made may act differently when they are being put on different platforms, so we need to adjust that.
So, those are all the insights we've acquired from Melon Gaming's developer team! If you're interested to see what our team has created so far, you can go to www.melongaming.com and check out our games that are out now!
