4 Mistakes you Should Avoid When Making your First Game (part. 1)
Previously, we have covered a few game development mistakes every game developer should avoid (http://www.melongaming.com/news/detail/mistake-every-game-developer-should-avoid). In this post, we’re going to go through a few more. These are a few fundamental mistakes that you, game developers, should avoid at all costs, especially when you’re just starting out with your first game.

Mistake #1: Trying to please everyone
It’s important to define your potential audience and demographics before beginning your game development process. Remember, you can’t make games that will appeal to everybody. So, focus on your specific target audience (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_audience ). By knowing who your demographics are, you will be able to make your game to better attract them. You will also avoid unnecessary marketing mistakes by marketing your game to the wrong audience.
What you can do to determine your target audience is by doing research. One thing you can do, for example, is you can search your competitors—games that shares the same genres, or have similar titles—and check their demographics. It will be a rough visualization of who your audience is going to be.

Mistake #2: Not doing an early playtesting
A lot of game developers might do a playtest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playtest) only by the end of their game development process, or when their game is nearly finished. This is certainly a mistake. You should do play tests as early as possible, as soon as your prototype (https://www.techopedia.com/definition/678/prototype) is built. An important thing to note is you shouldn’t do the play tests yourself. You’re not making a game for yourself, so let other people play test for you and give you feedbacks. They might notice mistakes that you’ve missed.
If you do this early on, you still have a lot of time for improvement and make changes.
Those are two mistakes a new game developer should avoid. We do hope you find them useful and you’re able to learn from them.
