Gather all your ideas and note them. Start to imagine what kind of game you want to make, what characters will be in it, what genre is your game, what kind of background story or event that start your game, etc. But, you still need to pay attention to your skill and budget you have or willing to spend.

2. Software

To develop a game, you need a special software called a game engine. Therefore, after you list all the things from the first step into a single compact idea, you need to choose your game engine . There are many types of game engine out there with their respective pro & cons.

Therefore, you need to research, compare, and consider the compatibility of your chosen game engine with the game you want to make. For 2D games, at melongaming we are using melonJS, as it offers the most comprehensive list of features you might need for this type of games, a full list of supported 3rd party tools, and yet is lightweight and fully optimized for any platform you might target.

In this step, you finally work and practice all you have to learn and search. First, you need to make the character of your game, background. Then, you need to do coding to make your character and game work and animated. For making character and background you can use many tools like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, Krita, Pixlr, and Corel Draw. For coding and make the game work and animated is a matter of trial and error. You have to be patient and find the right code and animation to make your game perfect and satisfying. Don't forget to do bug testing!

5. Publish it to the world.

Finally, after your game work and animated and pass the bug testing step the long awaiting moment come. Release your game for the whole world to play! There are many forum and places for you to publish your game. If your game is in HTML5 and categorizes as an instant game you can try to publish it at Facebook Instant Game.
